Kirsten- she was my first when I was a kid and the company first started. I chose her out of the original three because she shared my Scandinavian heritage and my American ancestry as farmers in the Midwest frontier. I also adored her character in the books.
Felicity- my little sister's doll, and eventually when we were adults my sister gave her to me. She was never really a doll person. My sis got Felicity as a kid because she wanted to play dolls with my best friend and I. Felicity would have been my second choice at the time (1991) anyway because her collection is absolutely gorgeous.
Addy- is my all-time favorite character. She and Momma are like me and my mother. Her books make me cry and I love her strength and lessons in love in the face of adversity. And she's darn cute, too!
Samantha- I had the opportunity to get a WB for under $100 and couldn't resist. She arrived MIB- I was so pleasantly surprised!
Josefina- I just love Josie's collection, and I got a huge lot from ebay with the 1997 doll and a lot of her stuff. I grew up in CA and often traveled to the southwest and up through NM, so her stuff is very familiar and homey to me.
Kit- She's just so cute! I couldn't resist her.
Kirsten II- She arrived in a lot for cheap and I felt like having a display Kirsten. I didn't want to play with my WB Kirsten's hair anymore- she is now nearly 20 years old and a bit delicate and I never want to send her to the hospital- it'd be like replacing a friend's head. So Kirsten II, a PM tan bodied one, came to join the family. Kirsten I hangs out with me by my bed.
LOF Dolls to make Elizabeth and Sarah- Felicity and Addy were lonely and wanted friends.
Carpatina Julia to make Yrillien- She had a miniscule (can't even see it unless under strong light) rub on her forehead from a poorly packed box. So Carpatina was selling them for $28 on ebay. Snatched her up to make into my wood elf.
Molly to make Lisbeth- I had a few Mollys before and never bonded with them. I like Molly's stuff, and I think Molly is a lovely doll. The thing is, I don't like Molly's stuff on Molly. I figured this out and bought a PM Molly who keeps Kirsten II company as Lisbeth and wears my "older girl/young woman-ish" pioneer clothes from LOF. This Molly is here to stay- I love her as Lisbeth!
Coming NEXT WEEK from AGPLA!!!
Jess- To be my WWII California Japanese-American girl. I was tempted by Marisol and may buy her one day off ebay to be Francesca, but the combo of a LE that is an archaeologist (I'm an anthropologist and my department is big on Maya studies) and how gorgeous she was was too overpowering. I've wanted an Asian-American historical for years, so I'll create my own for now. And later, Jess can either remain in the 1940s or hop into the world of today, or become friends with the Asian American historical they will (hopefully) one day produce.
Kaya- She's lovely, and the last historical I don't have. Nuff said.

Nellie: Got for DD's birthday because I thought they kinda looked alike (this was before the bangless AGoTs)
Samantha: Won on eBay for $35 in her birthday dress that would cost me $22 from AG. Plus if you're gonna get the friend, might as well have the original.
Felicity: My doll; love Colonial America
Marisol: Christmas present from DD's grandparents because DD loves to dance
Bitty Baby (name changes): DD did extra chores to earn money for her
Gotz Maxy Muffin Ella: Not really an AG doll, but can wear Bitty clothes so we count her. Grandma Santa got her because DD wanted a baby doll with hair she could play with. Ironically, has never taken the pigtails out or brushed this doll's hair. EVER.
Hopscotch Hill Hallie and Logan: Liked the books.

Oh, wow, gonna be a long post, but bear with me---
Felicity: PM, ebay, Oct 2004--I THOUGHT she was going to be my only doll, and I loved the colonial period and the uniqueness of her colonial wardrobe.
Sarabeth AGT12: PM, ebay, Nov 2004--Just HAD to have a blonde-haired AG with bangs! I wasn't too particular about the eye color at the time, and she is soooo sweet!
Amanda AGT2: PM, ebay, Feb 2005--I wanted an original 1995 AGT with the original outfit and nice hair, and my Amanda filled the bill perfectly! Her medium skintone adds variety, too.
Angel AGT3: PM, ebay, March 2005--I wanted a blonde, blue-eyed doll; also, Angel came in the purple skating dress, hard to resist! She has a rather pale complexion that didn't show up in the auction pictures, but I love her dearly.
Shan Li AGT4: PM, ebay, April 2005--I had been looking for a PM Asian doll for a long time, but the prices always went out of my range; then I bid on and won my Shan Li. I bid higher on her than I would have otherwise, because she came wearing Kirsten's Swedish Dirndl outfit! (I figured about half my bid was for Shan Li, and half for her outfit!)
Samantha: Mattel, ebay, May or June 2005--Samantha was a fortunate "accident" as I had bid on her on the strength of the uninformed seller's describing her as PM--It was evident that she was NOT PM as soon as I took her out of the box. When I emailed the seller of my disappointment, he immediately offered a partial refund, which I cheerfully accepted. I intended to re-sell Samantha, since I had intended to collect only PM's, but soon it was too late! She was already part of my AG family, and I couldn't give her up!
Kirsten: PM, ebay, June 2005--Finally, I won a Kirsten! She was a fixer-upper, but I had just joined the board and found out about how to re-condition AG hair, and she turned out nicely, thank you. I'd wanted a Kirsten from the beginning, for her pioneer era, and her pretty blonde hair (so much like mine as a child)!
Red-Headed Lissie: PM, ebay, July 2005--I never meant to have 2 Felicity's; this one was supposed to be a birthday gift for my sister. My sister has red hair and loves the colonial era, so I thought a nice PM Lissie would be a good way to entrap I mean introduce her to AG's. But alas! the biter was bit, and I couldn't give her up! The AG Force triumphed, and I gave up 27 pounds instead. (If anyone's interested, I'll bump up the old post that tells the story.)
Josefina: PM, ebay, Sept 2005--a long-sought doll! I loved Josefina, but wanted a PM one, which are harder to find in nice shape. I believe mine is PM, as she was described that way by a reputable seller, though she isn't a first-edition doll. I love her clothes and her lovely face-mold!
Rescued Kirsten: PM, ebay, Oct 2005--I had actually bought her in the spring as fixer-upper to re-sell, BUT--after replacing her chewed-off arm, (dog attack)de-smoking her,(NOT from a smoke-free home!) fixing her tangled frizzed hair, and making her new shoes(only had one, and it was chewed), and working on the scratches in her face, I realized that I could never get back enough money to make it worth letting her go. AND, I think she is probably German-made, though tan-bodied. When I look at her without my reading glasses, I can't even see the scars and shallow gouges in her face (kind of like when a blind girl has a homely boyfriend)--all I can see is how pretty she is!
Marisol: Mattel, LE, Dec 2005--A much-wanted birthday gift from DH. I had re-discovered AG just after Kailey had been retired, so this was the first LE doll that had been available to me outside of ebay. AND, she had Josefina's facemold!! I didn't care for her meet outfit, but after seeing board members' pictures of her in other clothes, I decided that I REALLY wanted her for my birthday, and informed my prince of a DH, who came through handsomely!
Rosemary AGT6: PM, (with replacement Mattel head), ebay, Dec 2005--She was also supposed to be resold, but just before Christmas(when I'm really soft), she asked to stay with us, and I couldn't refuse! Fortunately, I was able to tell DH it was because I didn't have a green-eyed blonde. (I think he believed it, or maybe he just knows that I've gone mad, mad, mad)
Mei Ling AGT4: Mattel, AGPC, March 2006--I chose her personally to kind of replace an AGT4 I'd had but sold because I was never really happy with her hair. THIS Mei Ling's hair seems to be thicker, and her skintone is DEFINITELY much improved! (I also bought her the embroidered party dress!)She's just beautiful, and I love her!
Nellie: AGPC, March 2006--same trip as Mei Ling, I super-indulged myself with TWO dolls, but while I was there, I thought I would take advantage of the opportunity to personally choose the doll I wanted. Nellie has kind of gradually grown on me (I wasn't very interested in her when she was just released), and I like her character and determination in the stories. Also, she looks really cute in Kit's overalls outfit someone posted on the board! I like her unique hair color, too, so I chose a really pretty Nellie to be a best friend to my Samantha! (See my album, called The Wonderful Box)
So that's how I acquired 14 dolls in 18 months; only 10 of those month being a member of this board!
Now I have to slow down--at least until I figure out how to make even MORE room on the bookcase! [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Samantha: I read her books when I was little and adored her. I spent hours gazing at her collection, and re-read her stories numerous times. My parents surprised me with her for Christmas.
Josefina: I'm half-Mexican and was delighted when they came out with Josefina. I was in the club at the time and got really hyped up for her, read her books and all. Again, I was surprised by my parents with Josefina, as was my best friend.
Kirsten: I got Kirsten just this past Christmas. She's the one that got me hooked on AG to begin with when I was little, and my mom remembered that and got her for me.
Felicity: We found a beautiful pm Felicity on ebay and had to have her. So we got her. I'm still thrilled with her vibrant red hair.
Addy: Again, we found a really awesome deal on a pm Addy. So we bought her. (At this point I /really/ wanted to get all the historicals I'd grown up with. Meaning, Felicity, Josefina, Kirsten, Addy, Sam, and Molly. Kit and Kaya aren't a priority for me right now. Except I think I might like Kit more than Molly. )
Nicole: My one and only AGT, unless you count Marisol. Gift from mom, again. She actually was going to try and surprise me with her, but blew the surprise. She came in the mail extremely quickly (Thanks sinead!) and beat Addy here. Mom thought it was Addy, who I knew about, and let me open the box. But it was Nicole!
Marisol: Relatively good price on ebay and I really want to get all the LEs. Got her and fell more in love with her in person. She's SO beautiful!

My collection started based on who was in my Girl Scout troop. I had a very diverse troop. I also already had 18 inch Girls Scout uniforms for all age levels of Scouting.
I had DD's Addy to represent the AA girls in the troop. I got Cynthia Diane (AGT#13) to represent my Co-leader's daughter, Barbara Leanne (AGT#8) to represent Kimmy, a red haired blue-eyed girl in my troop,Ashley Evette (AGT#3) to represent Jacqueline, a blonde Hair blue eyed troop member, Keisha Joelle (AGT#20) to represent Adelaide another blonde troop member, and Josefina to represent Jennifer, a Hispanic Girl in my troop. I started adding AA dollies(Addies)to represent the other AA girls in the troop.
After I finished getting enough dollies to make up the whole troop; I decided to would get more dollies to expand on my diverse troop theme of AG dollies...Kaya and Sue Lynn (AGT#4) came next...after that is was...well..uh..history/"Gonersville" for me. I had 15 dollies when I joined HB last July, Now I have 24, including all the LE's. In short; I went from GSA Display dollies to a total AG Goner!!HA!

This is gonna be long!
Kailey: I went over my friends house. She had two dolls Kailey and #13. She also had the retired Coconut's stationary set. I fell in love with the stationary set. I am a big dog lover and stationary lover so I definatly wanted it! I got a great report card so my parents said they would take me to AGPNY to get it. I went on the website and fell in love with Kailey. That day she came home with me.
Nicole: It was my same friend who got me into American Girl's birthday. She was having it at AGPNY. My mom told me that since I had taken such good care of Kailey she would get me another doll. [She didn't think I was going to play with dolls since I stopped playing with Barbies years before]Everyone that came to the party got a doll except for a few.
Nellie: I went over the same friends house that got me into my other dolls and she preordered Nellie so the day she came out she was there. She opened Nellie and started showing her around. I thought she was beautiful and my mom thought she looked like me but she wouldn't buy her. I went home and I asked my dad and he said ok. That same night I ordered her.
Alison When they came out with the new 3 dolls in August or September 2004 I liked #24 at first. My mom said no more dolls. I told her that I wanted #24 for my birthday. She said no. Then in October 2004 a few days before my birthday I went over the same friends house and she had #22. I thought she was so pretty! I told my mom I wanted her and she still said no more dolls. Then on my Birthday there were alot of presents but none were doll shaped. I was very disapointed. Then my mom told me to go get her something in her bedroom I went in and when I came out there was a doll shaped box. I opened her and there was my Alison.
Samantha [M]: The Samantha movie was coming out and I had Nellie but I didn't have her friend Samantha. I saw her all the time at American Girl, but I had never got her. I begged and pleaded with my dad. After a while he gave in and he let my mom order me Samantha. =They day when she came and he was here and watched me open her and saw the smile on my face he said it was priceless.
Marisol: When I saw the pictures of what he predicted she was going to look like I did not like her at all. I thought she was ugly. I especially did not like the predidcted outfit. When I saw her though, I thought she was beautiful! Since she came out a few days after Christmas, I had money saved up. I still didn't have enough to buy her though. My mom said she would give me the rest of the money I needed to buy Marisol. We went down to AGPNY the next day and I got my Marisol.
Felicity: I never really liked her, but after I saw everyone's pictures on HB I decided that I wanted Felicity. I loved her red hair and green eyes. I had to work around the house for a couple of days but then my dad told my mom to order me Felicity. The day she came was one of the best days of my life.
Leah: I didn't have a PM doll. I saw the difference with all the pictures on Hostboard on how they have the softer eyelashes and the artist mark and the softer vinyl. I wanted one so bad. Me and my mom were looking on e-bay and we came across Leah. We had to become members of e-bay because this would be our first time buying. I went to school that day and when I got out my mom told me that we had won! I was so excited. When she came the seller had packed her very nice and she looked like new.
Molly: At first I did not like her I thought she looked like Harry Potter. I think that I was blind. I didn't relize how pretty and what a gorgeous face she had until after she came. Her hair was a little dry and still is. I even did the Downey Dunk and it still was. Even though she is not like a new Molly I love her just the same as my other dolls.
Elizabeth:Alot of people thought she was too barbiash, because she had blonde hair, blue eyes and a pink gown. I did not think so. We went the day when she was being released to the club members at the store. We picked one up for my babysitter too, for her grandaughter. I also got her because I knew that the Felicity movie was coming out, and just like Samantha I had to have Elizabeth because she was Felicity's friend.
Faith: For my birthday I had known all my presents because I went with my mom down to the the store to pick them out. Nothing was a surprise. I didn't think it would bother me that much. The day when my birthday came I was very sad because nothing was a surprise like my other birthdays. My dad saw that I was very sad so he told me to take a walk with him to McDonalds to talk about it. On the way I had told him, and he asked me what would make me feel better and I told him a surprise would and he asked if I wanted a new doll. I said okay. The next day we went down to AGPNY and I picked #7 who I named Faith. That was my birthday doll.
Samantha [WB]: I had seen the differences in WB Samanthas and Mattel Samanthas like the one I had. I personally likeed the Pre-Mattel White Body ones better because of there longer lighter brown hair and softer eyelashes. Me and my mom looked on e-bay for a while but kept getting outbid on all of the ones we were bidding on. Finally we kept bidding on a gorgeous one. The night when she was ending I was so excited my babysitter even came up. We raised the bid at the last minute and I was happy we did because someone tried to snipe it, but there max was too low! I got my desired WB Samantha. When she came she was mint like descirbed. She looked like she just came out of the box.
Jess: I saw the picture that someone from another country had hacked from Mattel, and I thought she looked beautiful. I loved her because she was half Irish, and half Asian.[I am Half irish] The day when she came out I had Christmas money so my mom ordered her for me. My mom had her shipped to her job. They day when she came we went to go get her and the boss made me open her this way he could see her. Later, I showed her to my dad, and that is his favorite doll that I have. That makes her even more special to me.
Maddie: I got very sick with a dry cough, and cold. I would not wear Vicks for anything. My mom needed me to get better this way I coul go to school again. So she made a deal with me that if I put Vicks on that I could have any doll I wanted. I had always liked #23 but I had never gotten her. I had decided on #23 because she was one of my mom's favorites too. I think she is the doll that looks the most like me because I have brown hair, blue eyes, and freckles. I am in the process of growing out my bangs, so I consider her my min-me.
Kirsten [WB] I said that my next doll was going to be Kirsten. I was looking on e-bay and I came across her she was a great deal, I begged my mom and she said ok. We bid on her and we won. When she came her hair was frizzy. We put Rusk softener in it, and it looks so shiny now, like brand new. One day I plan to get a White Body Molly so I could have the original three in White Body. I also love Kirsten's time period and her prairie clothes.

Let's see...
Felicity: I got her in 93. I decided on her because then she had the ealiest time period and I loved her clothes. I saved my money for a long time.
Cassie: retired AGoT 9 with brown hair and grey eyes. I got her just after AGoTs came out and at the time, she looked the most like me...which is funny because she really doesn't look *anything* like me today.
Kit: I thought her short hair was darling. I had to have her.
Elizabeth: This is the dolly that got me back into AG collecting. FarmhouseGirl showed her to me on the AG website and I got her for my 19th birthday.
Sophia: I wanted a doll to take travelling and maybe even send out someday. I didn't want to risk my irreplaceable pre-mattels and I wanted a modern girl to share in my adventures.

Fiffy, because she looks like my daughter.
Felicity, because I just love her accessories and time period.
Molly, my daughters favorite.
I was going to stop with these three, but then AG force got me - - - -
Samatha joined the happy family, because of her cute outfits and accessories.
Josefina, Addy, Kirsten and Kit I had to have after reading their books. I think Josefina is my favorite book series.
Got Marisol when her world went on sale.
Got Elizabeth to go along with Felicity when she was announced.
Got Jess the day she was announced.
Got a good deal on ebay for a first issue Nellie for Samantha. (Have to get the friend's doll. Right?)
For Christmas I picked up the retired Doll of the years, Lindsey and Kailey.
Waiting for Emily and maybe a AGT before the meet outfits change.
